Nike Moves To Lehigh Valley To Open 1MM SF Warehouse In Pennsylvania.
Nike has an agreement to lease a million-square-foot warehouse on former Bethlehem Steel land, according to Bethlehem’s mayor.
Mayor Robert Donchez confirmed that the Oregon-based maker of sneakers and athletic clothing has a deal to come to 3633 Commerce Center Blvd. in the Majestic Bethlehem Center.
The deal is expected to create 250 jobs with room for growth, Donchez said.
“I’m excited about it. Hopefully there will be a ribbon cutting in mid-summer,” he said.
The property has been listed for about 10 months on the Majestic Realty website. The warehouse is 40 feet tall and 1,041,600 square feet, the site says. The listing agent, Ed Konjoyan, didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Donchez said the Bethlehem site beat out a competitor in New Jersey. The site makes sense as a hub for East Coast e-commerce due to its proximity to Interstate 78, New York City and Philadelphia.
“I think it’s just great for the city and for the whole Lehigh Valley to get a company of that magnitude to locate here,” Donchez said.
“The redevelopment of the former Bethlehem Steel site has been nothing short of extraordinary,” added Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. CEO Don Cunningham. “Majestic was an early believer and has been a key player in that process. Majestic’s addition of an international brand like Nike adds to the Lehigh Valley’s reputation as an industrial center in the Northeastern United States.”
Donchez said Nike wants to be involved in the community once it settles here.
“I’m looking forward to working with them,” Donchez said.
