Pennsylvania doctors sound the alarm over Medicaid rollbacks
Doctors across Pennsylvania are sounding the alarm over potential rollbacks to Medicaid.
Congressional Republicans are pushing an $880 billion cut to trim the budget. Medicaid is not mentioned among those cuts but experts say it’s impossible to meet their goals without cutting Medicaid because that’s where the money is.
More than 3 Million Pennsylvanians are on Medicaid. Doctors say for some it’s literally life and death.
“Some will go bankrupt because of huge medical bills, and unfortunately, some people may die,” Dr. Sherilyn McCollum said. “Doctors see firsthand how access to health care can improve and save lives. And we also see the flip side that when people can’t see a doctor, they get sicker and suffer needlessly.”
Republicans, including Midstate Congressman Scott Perry, say the only Medicaid cuts will be to waste, fraud and abuse in the program.
