Verizon wants to hire more than 1K nationally, including in Allentown
Verizon Wireless plans to hire more than 1,000 employees nationally as part of its largest recruitment effort in over five years.
The push comes as states are easing up on COVID-19 restrictions inside retail stores.
In Pennsylvania, the Wolf administration is lifting all restrictions on businesses and gatherings on May 31, pennlive.com reports. In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that, as the state’s COVID-19 numbers improve and vaccinations increase, businesses will be allowed to operate at full capacity May 19 — as long as they can maintain six feet of social distancing between patrons and groups, according to nj.com.
The Verizon positions, all retail, are designed to ensure a consistent customer experience as interest and excitement around the company’s 5G Ultra Wideband network grows and more customers return to stores, company representatives said. The company said it specifically is looking for potential employers who are early adopters of new technology; excited about 5G and its potential; interested in sharing their tech knowledge with others; and team-players who enjoy sharing goals and celebrating successes.
The company also wants employees who are customer-focused; committed to driving meaningful change in their careers and community; are motivated by the chance to continuously grow, learn and realize new ambitions; are “gamers” who rely on fast connections to reduce delays and buffering; and are looking to be part of a network of people who are moving forward in worldwide initiatives, representatives added.
Verizon spokesman Chris Serico told lehighvalleylive.com the latest recruitment includes 28 retail-oriented positions in 16 Pennsylvania areas, including Allentown. Another 15 positions were created in eight New Jersey areas, with the closest to the Lehigh Valley being in Flemington, Hunterdon County and Bridgewater, Somerset County.
Benefits listed on the company’s website indicate paid leave for new parents, performance-based incentive bonuses, a 401(k) savings plan, training plans, employee assistance plans, and paid vacation and personal time, as well as holidays.
All the jobs are listed at verizon.com.
Verizon additionally announced Tuesday it is bringing back its offer for patrons to trade in existing cracked or water-damaged phones and receive up to a $1,000 credit on a new 5G phone.
